WanDilson > For some reason, Nate and I decided it would be fun to go backpacking in the winter. And it actually was. I had never camped in the snow, so I didn't really know what to expect. I figured it would be cold though, so I brought an extra pair of socks and some sweat pants. We headed out to a place called Minister Creek in Pennsylvania, a 7-mile loop trail we had done in the summer once. It poured down rain for that whole trip, so we figured snow wouldn't be much worse. We got off to a late start, however, thanks to the clutch on my truck going out on me the day before we left. It took most of the next day (and 700 bucks) to get it fixed, so we didn't get to the area till late in the day, so we decided to camp at one of the local campsites along the river. This is said river.
WanDilson > It was snowing pretty much the entire trip, so there was a ton of new powder, which was pretty sweet. Here are some snow angels Nate and I made.
WanDilson > We brought some wood with us to make a fire, which was a big plus because it was a little chilly.
WanDilson > Here's Nate trying to get feeling back in his feet the next morning. For reasons unbeknownst to me, we decided to sleep under a tarp instead of a tent. Nate was fresh off the Appalachian Trail, and he had used a tarp for a good portion of that trip and swore by it, so I didn't argue. You can see the tarp in the background buried in snow. I don't know if it was the tarp or the temperatures in the teens, but it was a damn cold night.
WanDilson > After warming up with some hot chocolate we got started on the trail. The day started pretty cloudy and chilly, but once we got moving we warmed up quickly.
WanDilson > I don't know why I took this.
WanDilson > We came to some cliffs that we had checked out on our first trip out here, and Nate wanted to go up there again. I wasn't feeling real well, so I stayed behind while he went up to the cliffs. I took a nice little siesta in the snow. Its really quite comfortable as long as you have enough clothes on.
WanDilson > This is the view from my napping spot. Eventually the clouds lifted and it became a pretty nice day.
WanDilson > We took a detour down to this marshy area for lunch. As you can see, there was no shortage of snow.
