WanDilson > Another shot from camp the following morning.
WanDilson > Obligatory picture of Nate pissing.
WanDilson > The original plan was to ski back out the way we had come, but there were a few problems. The biggest was that there was no way Nate's heels could have taken another 6 miles in his ski boots. It ended up not mattering anyway, because in the two days we were gone most of the snow along the sides of the roads had melted away. The crappy part, though, was that now we had all of our ski gear strapped to our packs, which meant they weighed somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-70 pounds.
WanDilson > Nate went Cascade Pass-style and wore his crocs the whole way out. I was proud of him.

So overall, this had been a pretty grueling trip. But at the same time it was one of the most rewarding. Skiing up the volcano completely kicked my ass and broke my spirit, but the beauty of it all and the trip back down the mountain was well worth the effort. Besides, I think getting broken down like that every once in awhile is good for the soul.
WanDilson > To reward ourselves for our hard work on the mountain, we decided to spend a few days at Nate's uncle John's lakehouse. This place is kind of gorgeous. Here's the scenery off his porch.
WanDilson > John brought up a honey-baked ham for us, which we proceeded to polish off over the course of a few days. I didn't actually help Nate wash the dishes, I just took pictures.
WanDilson > John brought his two dogs, Pearl on the left, Dodge on the right. I believe that's John's hand and leg in the picture as well, which is apparently the closest I got to taking a picture of him. Sorry John. And thanks again for everything!
WanDilson > The first morning we were there we helped John shovel snow for a little while (on the first official day of summer; that was a first for me). We then proceeded to do absolutely nothing productive for the rest of the trip. Unless you count soaking in a hot-tub, reading, fishing, napping, eating, or shooting pool productive. Pearl makes a great lap dog; as soon as I made the fire and sat down in the recliner with my book, she hopped right up.
WanDilson > I mentioned fishing. We did a lot of that, and it started off very promising. I caught two fish on my first 5 casts, including my first trout ever (pictured here). I had to fight it for about an hour or so, but eventually I won the battle. The picture is deceiving, that thing was easily 3 feet long.
